Nobody asked for my review - The Four Seasons
While surfing Netflix a few weeks ago, I decided to watch something new and chanced upon The Four Seasons. I saw the trailer featuring Steve Carell, Tina Fey, and a group of friends enjoying life, and I was sold!
Created by the ever-brilliant Tina Fey, along with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, The Four Seasons is an eight-part series adapted from the 1981 film of the same name. Alan Alda, who wrote and directed the 1981 film, also has a guest role in this series.
The ensemble cast boasts several fine actors, including Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Erika Henningsen. The series follows the lives of three couples who are best friends and take vacations together each season. The series follows them through each vacation, from Spring to Winter. Out of the six individuals, some met in college, while the rest (basically their spouses) became friends through marriage or work. These couples are in their forties and fifties, with the infamous midlife crisis looming large. What unfolds with each couple in every season is essentially what The Four Seasons is about.
What I liked most about the series was the writing and the casting, hands down. The series is divided into four parts (four seasons) and incorporates Vivaldi's Four Seasons Violin Concertos for each season, which I loved as a fan of classical music.
I'll also add that the series isn't slow, but it's not action-packed or fast either. Some moments felt dull and didn't seem to add much to the story. But all in all, I really enjoyed the character arcs, how midlife crises manifested for each couple (together and individually), and how they navigated through them. There was one shocker in episode 7 that truly broke my heart, but otherwise, the episodes are filled with sweet bits, wit and comedy (very Tina Fey style)
And even though I didn't completely relate to it(because I'm still a 20 yo), it was a great watch!
For now, I'm excited to see what Season 2 will bring. :)
Also, Happy New Year, folks! Wishing y'all a beautiful year! :)
