Heartwarming and feel-good movies you can watch to beat life’s blues away!
We’ve all had those really bad days when our boss just won’t stop giving us work, or people are annoying all around and nothing seems right, or we’re just simply tired from being stuck in our homes because of the endless lockdowns and the uncertainty facing our future. So, what does one do?
Simple! You get into your comfiest pajamas, grab your favorite
snack and watch movies that make your heart go aww!
I’ve compiled my favorite heartwarming movies so you
don’t have to hunt them, hehe 😊
Pride and Prejudice (2005) – This has to be right on top, for obvious reasons (It's my favorite movie, that's why :p). I first watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) in 2018, post my class 12th examinations, and have not stopped recommending it to people ever since! An adaptation of Jane Austen’s book by the same name, this movie, set in the 19th century England, is a treat for the eyes! Beautiful performances by Keira Knightley, Mathew McFadyen as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, the lovely soundtrack composed by Dario Marianelli, ball dances, elaborate dresses, hand grazes and 19th century England life is what makes this an absolute gem of a movie. Watch this and be completely, perfectly, and incandescently happy! *wink-wink*

Peanut Butter Falcon (2019) – I watched this movie this year and the only regret I have is not watching
this gem before. A movie about a man (Zack Gottsagen) with Down Syndrome
dreaming to become a wrestler runs away from his nursing home to join a
wrestling school in North Carolina. On the way, he meets Shia LaBeouf, an
on-the-run fisherman forming an unlikely friendship. Dakota Johnson is a fun
addition to the cast making it an easy-breezy film that will leave you smiling in
the end.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018) – If you feel poor before you start watching this, be prepared. This will make you feel poor in ways you’ve not known before. The movie follows Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) accompanying her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding) to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding, only to realize that his family is one of the wealthiest families in the country. How Rachel tries to fit in this family is what forms the rest of the story. A cameo by Awkwafina, beautiful locations showcasing the wonder Singapore is, the drop-dead beautiful wedding and the amazing acting by Constance Wu are some of the reasons why you should watch this movie ASAP! You can always thank me later 😊

Leap Year (2010) – This is easily one of the
cutest movies of the last decade. A girlfriend (Amy Adams) learns about an
Irish tradition where the girl pops the question to the boy on the 29th
of February (a leap year, if your brains took a little time). But to achieve
this, she needs to reach Dublin first which is easier said than done as her journey
with an annoying driver (Mathew Goode) is filled with bizarre distractions. Directed
by Anand Tucker, this movie is filled with cute moments, beautiful Ireland views,
funny moments, and a lot of Ireland superstitions. GO WATCH IT!
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (2018)–
You didn’t read the whole thing, did you? The Guernsey Literary (oh, here we go
again) and Potato Peel Society is a 2018 historical romantic drama based on a
2008 novel of the same name. Starring Lily James, Michiel Huisman in the
leading roles, it revolves around a book club (no points for guessing the name
of the club!) that was formed during the WWII German occupation of Guernsey. A
heartwarming story with beautiful scenery and superb acting, this will remain
in your hearts for a long, long time!

The Intern (2015)– As a retired person, life can seem
quite slow as the constant buzz isn’t there. And that is exactly why Ben
Whittaker (Robert De Niro), a 70-year-old widower wants to join back in the
game, as an intern at an online fashion site with Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway)
as his new boss who’s also a workaholic. Both Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro
are superb in their roles and the story is quite simple, laced with wisdom bits,
cute moments, and unlikely friendships.

The Holiday (2006) – Although it has a Christmas vibe
to it, this movie can be seen anywhere, anytime, thanks to its beautiful story
and the ensemble cast. Oscillating between London and America, the movie
revolves around Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and their not-so-very
great romantic lives. Having been heartbroken right before the holiday season,
both of them exchange houses for the season, hoping to get away from their
respective places for a break in their romantic lives. What happens when they reach
each other’s houses is what forms the rest of the story! Keep a box of tissues handy,
if you’re a big weeper 😊

Yesterday (2019)– Everyone knows about The Beatles,
the legendary boy band that changed the face of modern music and has continued
to influence the music made even today. But what happens when a blackout
changes everything and no one remembers them, except for one struggling musician? You'll have to watch the movie to find out!😊
Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, you guessed it right!), and
starring Himesh Patel, Lily James, and a cameo by Ed Sheeran, this movie will
make you go through your teenage Beatles years. Watch this for a celebration of
love, music, and everything good!

Sister Act (1992) – As someone who did 14 years of
her school under the presence of nuns, I’ve always wondered how nuns live their
lives and if their lives were actually boring like we thought it to be. Sister
Act is here to break all the notions you’ve ever had about all this! Absolute brilliant
acting by Whoopi Goldberg as a lounge singer turned sister because of
circumstances I shall not reveal, peppy Gospel songs, a lot of action and
Maggie Smith’s eye rolls will make you fall in love with this film!
P.S. If you liked this film, its sequel, Sister Act 2 is equally fantastic!

Mamma Mia (2008) – The best one for the last! I cannot
emphasize enough how brilliantly they’ve made this film. With a stellar cast,
including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Christine
Baranski among others, it’ll transport you to the fictional island of Kalokairi,
giving you the much-needed holiday feels! And before you know it, you’ll be dancing
to the tune of ‘Dancing Queen’ like never before!
