Nobody asked for my review - Modern Love
It was July of 2020. Having been stuck in my house for more than 2 months, courtesy the Covid pandemic and the lockdown which followed, and having re-watched all my favorite shows/movies for the nth time, I was ready for something new and heartwarming. It was almost at this moment, as luck would have it, that I chanced upon Modern Love on Amazon Prime. I watched the trailer, and I was not disappointed. If anything, it made me click on the ‘play’ button as fast as I could.
I’d suggest
you watch Modern Love S1 and S2 ASAP because, let’s face it, it’s beautiful. But,
if you’re like me, who needs a little more cajoling before diving into anything
new, read on!
Modern Love
is an anthology series, created by John Carney which is inspired by the weekly
column of the same name published by The New York Times. The first season was
released in 2019 and the second season released in August, this year.
Season one is brilliant, heartwarming and boasts of a stellar cast including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andrew Scott and Dev Patel (*internally screaming*) among others. Not to totally brag, but I did finish the whole series in one go- part of which was because of how well the creators made it and how short the episodes were. While the stories are different and not related to each other( which is awesome, because you can see any episode at any given point of time), the ending ties it all together and makes it quite the happy ending for us.
When I heard that Modern Love was coming with a season two this year, I was a little hesitant. Hesitant, because I absolutely loved the first season and sequels have a way of downplaying the originals. But oh boy, the new season did not disappoint. In fact, it delivered on its promise!
Season two
roped in Kit Harington, Minnie Driver, Lucy Boynton, Tobias Menzes, and Anna
Paquin among others and had its bits of heartwarming moments, cheesy meet-cute songs,
and a blink -and -miss Game of Thrones reference *wink-wink*. The stories are
different and are situated in different cities, all the way from Dublin to New
York. (Personally though, the Dublin one wins hands down!)
One episode even had the pandemic playing the spoilsport, which made it relatable for
all of us out here :/
These stories
aren’t your regular happily-ever-after stories. The boy doesn’t always get
the girl, or vice-versa, and it’s not always summer and bright. But as long as you’ve
got someone to talk to, people who love you or a comforting hand to help you pass
the trying times, it’s going to be okay, and that is exactly what the stories portray.
It tells you stories of love in all forms, shapes, and sizes, of self-discovery,
of the cute and the not-so-cute moments which will make you feel mushy and
leave you wanting for more!
Go, stream it on Amazon and let me know which one you liked best! 😊
